BAKER – With the flooded mess cleared from Baker High School’s football field, the homecoming game is set to kick off tonight at 7 p.m.

Music, floats and cheerleaders filled the streets of Groom Road in Baker Friday to celebrate a very special homecoming.

Last month’s historic flooding ripped Baker High School to pieces. Now they are putting those pieces back together. Friday’s focus: celebration.

“I personally went through the flood,” Kirshika George said. “And just having the homecoming, everybody’s excited and so we are kind of putting that to our past and looking toward the future, rebuilding the city of Baker.”

Superintendent Herman Brister and several city leaders led the parade and threw candy to the crowd.

Before the parade, students, teachers and parents decorated the school’s float.

The parade not only symbolizes homecoming, but to bring normalcy back to this community.

The Buffaloes will take the field tonight. The team says it plans to win and claim victory for the city of Baker.
