Bait car leads to two more burglary arrests
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies in Baton Rouge said they caught two men red-handed after they broke into a "bait car" and took electronics that were inside.
Major Lawrence McLeary said 36-year-old Lowell McBeth of LaPlace and 31-year-old Andre Davis of Metairie were arrested Sunday evening in suspicion of burglary and theft.
McLeary said around noon Sunday auto theft detectives got an alert from a bait car that had been parked at 8900 Hooper Road. When they arrived they saw two men looking into the trunk; one had a digital camera that had been left inside the car, and a laptop that was also in the car had been placed on the ground.
According to detectives, a video recorded from inside the car showed one of the men trying to start the car before taking the laptop from the back seat, and both of the men opening the car's trunk.
Both men were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail.
