Bail set for woman charged with storing dead child in storage unit
LAFAYETTE - A Lafayette district court judge set bail Thursday at $125,000 for a woman charged with storing her dead child in a storage unit.
Police arrested Rebecca Landry on June 4 on one count of second-degree murder after a man who purchased an old storage unit she used found a dead baby inside.
According to police, she told investigators that the baby stopped breathing suddenly after Landry gave birth to the baby in an apartment in 2001. Landry admitted she did not seek medical attention when the baby stopped breathing, but put the baby's body in a box that she kept in her apartment.
Landry said she put the box in her mother's storage unit in 2002, according to investigators.
