PASCAGOULA, Miss.- Authorities have charged an inmate in the death of another prisoner at the Jackson County jail.
Testimony at an initial court appearance Tuesday was that Dionte R. Jones struck Anthony Eugene Moore with a closed fist, causing Moore's head to strike a concrete floor at the Jackson County jail on Sunday. Moore died Monday at a local hospital.
An affidavit read in court says the impact to Moore's head once it hit the jail's concrete floor resulted in hemorrhaging in his brain, ultimately causing the 46-year-old's death.
Jones, 19, is charged with homicide while in the commission of a misdemeanor assault. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Jones was jailed in 2012 on armed robbery, commercial burglary and misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana.
