WALKER - An autopsy is scheduled today after Livingston Parish deputies said a man stabbed his pregnant wife, cutting the unborn child from her and killing it yesterday.

Deputies charged Jeffery Reynolds, 31, with first-degree feticide and attempted second-degree murder. He's in jail on a half-million dollar bond, while the victim is in stable condition at a local hospital.

The sheriff's office received a call about a disturbance around 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Reynolds' home on Milton Road in Walker. They said they found Reynolds had used a "sharp instrument" to cut into his wife's stomach, and forcibly removed the fetus which later died.

Neighbors told News 2 Reynolds seemed "incoherent" when he was taken into custody.

"He was howling like an animal. It was a stream of consciousness rambling and ranting and raving and what have you," said one neighbor.

Investigators said they have no information about a motive for the crime at this time.
