ST. MARTINVILLE – Authorities in St. Martin Parish are warning the public about a new drug that’s like speed but being disguised as bath salts.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said the product is called “Cloud Nine High Quality Bath Salt”, and is a fine white substance similar to salt. It can be bought over the counter at local convenience stores.

When used as a recreational drug it has a speed-like effect, and also enhances the effects of certain other drugs.

Investigators said there are reports of individuals overdosing on the product, which could be fatal if consumed.
