ST. AMANT - 911 tapes revealed the frantic efforts of rescuers as they tried to pull a woman and four children from a submerged car in Ascension Parish the night of Mardi Gras.
The calls include the wife of a man who jumped into the Black Bayou to try and rescue Raelyn Encalade and the four children in her car. Two children escaped, but two perished in the wreck.
"The car's going under," she said on the call. "She's out... There's still kids in the car!"
News 2 will have more from the tapes starting at noon.
