Authorities arrest man after chase, crash
JARREAU - Authorities arrested a man after they said he intentionally rammed a Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office cruiser with a stolen car.
State Police arrested Travis J. Jarreau, 28, after the wreck Thursday night at 9:45 p.m. They said in addition to driving a stolen vehicle, Jarreau was also driving drunk on a suspended license.
Sheriff's deputies said they located Jarreau after a domestic abuse investigation and were trying to stop him when he fled in a stolen car. During the chase, they said Jarreau intentionally hit an oncoming sheriff's office unit head-on on LA 413 north of LA 414. The deputy driving had only minor injuries.
State Police responded to the scene to assist and said they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Jarreau. They arrested him on suspicion of third offense DWI and charged him with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
Sheriff's deputies also charged him with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, domestic abuse battery, simple criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, theft of a motor vehicle, and unauthorized use of a movable.
