A new audit says the superintendent of the Recovery School District misused his state-owned vehicle, driving it on personal trips, including dozens of visits to see family in Illinois.
The audit says Paul Vallas also used public funds for gasoline on those personal trips and the state paid the insurance claim for an accident that Vallas had while driving the state vehicle in Illinois.
The report says state law prohibits the use of a state vehicle for personal use.
