AUBURN, AL - The LSU Tiger football team came out and pulled no punches in their SEC opener against Auburn on Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium, but that first half energy gave way as the game wore on into the second half.

LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger turned his rookie Tiger quarterback Joe Burrow loose and the offense passed their way down the field mixing in throws down the middle of the field and passes to the boundary to get their first points of the game.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire raced in for the first touchdown of the game after Burrow converted a quarterback rush to get to the one yard line.

LSU led 7-0 after the first quarter as the Tiger defense stuffed an Auburn attempt on 4th and 1 at the LSU 15 yard line.  Devin White shot the gap and made a tackle in the backfield limiting the red-zone scoring threat.

Cole Tracy would miss a 53 yard field goal attempt, but hit a 33 yarder to put LSU up 10-0.

The second quarter belonged to the homestanding Tigers, as Auburn rallied and scored 14 unanswered points to lead it 14-10 at the half.

Auburn put back-to-back scoring drives together mainly on the ground, but a roughing the passer penalty against LSU linebacker Andre Anthony kept a drive alive that eventually led to another Tiger touchdown.

So far LSU penalties have been hurting them both on offense and defense, the Tigers have eight penalties for 76 yards in the first half.

Auburn started off the second half right where they left off in the first, scoring on their first possession of the third quarter with a four yard pass from Jarrett Stidham to Darius Slayton to cap a seven play, 55 yard drive to put the Auburn Tigers up 21-10.

LSU kicker Cole Tracey would hit a 27 yard field goal to get LSU back to within one score at 21-13.

That kick signaled a huge turnaround for LSU. On the Tigers' next possession Derrick Dillon would take a perfectly placed pass from Joe Burrow all the way down the sideline for a 71-yard touchdown. Auburn would get the ball back after a failed 2-point conversion, leaving the score at 21-19.

After another forced punt for Auburn, LSU methodically worked its way down the field, running out the clock as it did so. A pass interference call would help move the Tigers into field goal range on third down.

Coach Orgeron would take a final timeout with two seconds left in regulation to set up Cole Tracy for the game-winning field goal.

Tracy's kick sent the Tigers home with a huge SEC win, toppling Auburn 22-21.
