Attorney General Buddy Caldwell filed a petition for discovery and investigation against BP in Plaquemines Parish. The petition, filed in state court, said BP has failed to cooperate and share important information with the state.

The petition’s purpose is to gather information about the causes of the oil spill and its impact on Louisiana. That includes information requested since May 3 by the Louisiana Workforce Commission and the Louisiana Department of Social Services about all claims data collected by ESIS, the third party administrator for claims, and for information about BP workers.

Caldwell said the filing was a last resort to request the court to order BP to give information to the state. He said his concern is that Louisiana citizens are being treated fairly and receiving proper assistance.
