BATON ROUGE - Several Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control agents are in trouble for allegedly abusing their state-issued cell phones. An audit by the ATC uncovered records of agents using their state-issued phones for personal business while on the clock.

During October, one agent used the phone for almost 3,000 minutes - 1,400 of those minutes were used while on the clock. Another agent used over 2,600 minutes for personal calls.

ACT Commissioner Troy Hebert says this type of abuse of taxpayer dollars will not be tolerated.

"You shouldn't be using a taxpayer phone, at that level, or any level, while you're getting paid by the taxpayers to perform a job," said Hebert. "That is just blatant abuse that we have to stop."

Hebert tells News Two, many of these agents are senior employees.

ATC has immediately put a stop to the abuse and has forwarded the audit information to the legislative auditor and inspector general for possible further investigation and disciplinary action.
