An attempt to burn oil and gas spewing from a well blow-out in Assumption Parish is on-hold for the night.

The well, which blew out Wednesday, is in a sugar cane field between LA 1 and Highway 70 in Paincourtville.

After Friday's attempt to catch the blow-out on fire, by setting sugar cane on fire, failed, authorities spent an hour discussing what has worked so far, and what could work next.

State Master Trooper Bryan Zeringue says the burn did help clear a path for the crew's next attempt, but the weather is what they need help with the most to get the go-ahead for another attempt.

They'll make that decision Saturday morning.
