Ascension working on debris pickup plans
GONZALES - The parish president's office said they're still working on plans to get storm debris in Ascension Parish picked up after Monday's severe weather.
Parish President Tommy Martinez said they're still checking how much damage the trees, limbs, debris and brush blown down by Monday's strong winds and rain did across the parish. Once that's done, a schedule for debris pickup will be posted on the parish website.
Once the schedule is posted people can place trees, limbs and brush within 10 feet of the road right-of-way in order to be picked up. The contractors hired to handle debris pickup will not be allowed to enter onto private property, and will not pick up other trash such as insulation or plastic.
The parish Department of Public Works said the following roads are still closed because of downed power lines or debris:
Abby James Rd
Belleview at Toucan
Little Prairie at Syble Rd
Residents can call the Ascension Parish Department of Public Works at (225) 450-1300 for more information.
