DONALDSONVILLE- Students in Ascension Parish will get an extra push to succeed next year thanks to the new Westside Magnet Program.

The program will focus on students who live in Donaldsonville and need a more rigorous curriculum.

"Some of the lessons they are teaching, he knows those and he gets kinda bored and then ends up falling and I think he's not being challenged and I think one thing that this will do is really challenge him," said Charles Brown, who's student will be eligible for the program.

The program will provide more classwork and even give most students a laptop to take home.

"You would have friends seeing their colleagues walking around with laptops and that would maybe inspire them to maybe do better in school," said Mayor Leroy Sullivan, who also has a son in the schools.

The program will allow students to gain high school and college credit through their studies.

The program will be instituted at Donaldsonville High and Primary and Lowery Elementary and Middle schools.
