Ascension Parish urges feds to build a levee
GONZALES - The Ascension Parish Council is recommending a levee plan to the Army Corps of Engineers that would funnel water through the parish pumping station.
The Corps of Engineers released a plan last month that would provide protection for St. John the Baptist Parish, including Laplace, instead of an alternate plan that would provide protection for St. James Parish and the southern corner of Ascension Parish.
It's going to cost the parish $10 million dollars, but it's a route the parish council wants to go in order to get flood protection for the entire parish. +
The council's recommended plan also provides protection to St. James Parish.
