Ascension- Livingston Parkway proposal
PRAIREVILLE- People in Ascension Parish shared their thoughts on a parkway to connect Interstates 10 and 12.
It would link Livingston and Ascension Parish but would need a new bridge across the Amite River.
Kari Millet, lives in Ascension Parish and she's one of the thousands who drives Highway 42 everyday.
"Traffic on Highway 42 is a nightmare," said Millet.
There are three proposed routes.
One starts in Walker, heads south down Highway 447 and connects with Highway 16 through Port Vincent using the existing Amite River Bridge.
Another would begin between Livingston and Walker and run south through undeveloped land.
This route would include a new bridge over the river.
The final idea route would also start between Livingston and Walker, and run through undeveloped land, and take a western course around Port Vincent with a new bridge east of the junction of Highway 933 and Highway 42.
But not everyone is pleased with the plans.
"I have concerns because it will impact my property as well as some family property that's been in my family for many years," said Terri Colough.
But parish officials say without this parkway, the parish could face trouble in the future.
"You're just going to add to the congestion and issues and problems," said Ascension Parish senior project manager, Ray Miller.
Officials say it will be at least another ten years if approved before all of this happens.
