Ascension development causing flooding concerns
PRAIRIEVILLE - Homeowners in the Beechwood Subdivision off of LA 42 in Ascension Parish have an axe to grind with a nearby development.
Ted Prudhomme thinks the new subdivision is sending water onto his property.
"The past two years, since they cleared out the property behind my property it looks like it's been coming in harder into these yards because that property is higher than our property," said Prudhomme.
"We got cottonmouths swimming down, alligators, stuff we've never had before, it's all swamp behind us here and you know it's making the critters come this way," said Virgil Chamness, who lives across the street.
The friends hope a new flood system being installed on Henderson Bayou will help give them some flood relief, but since that station isn't in operation yet, they're just hoping it will work.
"We have to cross our fingers and hope to God that we can get some relief because at this time we're not getting any relief at all," said Prudhomme.
The flood system on Henderson Bayou is expected to be ready sometime next month.
