Ascension deputies find heroin during drug bust
PRAIRIEVILLE- A tip from neighbors led Ascension Parish deputies to seven arrests and several grams of heroin after a drug bust.
Deputies arrested Crystal Carter, 31, and Jeffrey Walker, 32, when they found drugs during a traffic stop. That arrest led investigators back to Carter's home on LA 929.
"When they got in the home they found five other people laying around the home, during the search they found pills on them as well as methamphetamine, in addition to that they found heroin," said Major Kevin Hanna with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested Jennifer Odom, 29; Caleb Wheat, 27; Morgan Patterson, 21; Joanna Wascom, 28; and Kyle Fletcher, 30, charging them all with various drug charges.
"You don't expect something like that to be found right next door, you just don't," said a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous.
The Sheriff's office said they're not in 'panic-mode' when it comes to heroin, but they'll be keeping an eye out for the dangerous drug.
"One ounce of heroin is entirely too much to have on the streets period, but it's something we're keeping our eye on and really pressing hard and moving forward, and really trying to keep it under control," said Hanna.
