Ascension deputies arrest suspected I-10 vehicle thief
GONZALES - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said a multi-parish investigation has yielded an arrest of a man accused of stealing multiple vehicles along I-10.
Ascension authorities said they received three separate reports of motorists leaving their vehicles on the side of the interstate after breaking down and returning to find their vehicles stolen.
These incidents were considered connected and prompted an investigation across several jurisdictions which resulted in the arrest of 34-year-old Edwar Soto of Kenner on Wednesday, according to Major Kevin Hanna of APSO.
Detectives said they learned during the investigation that Soto was using a standard truck rigged with a dolly system to tow the vehicles to a scrap yard in the New Orleans area where he was selling them for profit.
Edwar Soto was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail and faces new charges of three counts of theft of a motor vehicle. Soto has pending charges with at least three other agencies as well.
