BATON ROUGE - The Baton Rouge Police Department believes more arrests can be made with more manpower.
It's the first time since 2011 that all of the 34 cadets in the academy are expected to make it all the way through training and join the force.
The department says the number of misdemeanor summons written has dropped and the number of arrests is up.
"We know that there were some individuals out there that were getting numerous citations within a week. They were getting it taking it home, in their car, many of them didn't report," said Corporal L'Jean McKneely.
The department says the extra arrests have gotten even more illegal guns off the streets.
