Arrest made in shooting of Jennings police officer
JENNINGS - A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a police officer in Jennings.
30-year-old George Lowdins was booked on first degree attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer by flight, and domestic abuse battery.
Officer Ricky Benoit is listed in stable condition at a Lafayette hospital.
State Police say Benoit and another officer responded to a disturbance Monday morning. They say Benoit was inside with the suspect when the shooting occurred. Benoit was shot in the neck.
State Police say Lowdins admitted to shooting Benoit while being questioned by investigators.
