Arrest made in hit-and-run that killed Hammond skateboarder
HAMMOND - Police have made an arrest in a Hammond hit-and-run wreck that left a skateboarder dead.
Louisiana State Police tell media outlets 37-year-old Vincent Young was arrested Wednesday on charges of felony hit-and-run driving, driving on a suspended license and driving without a license plate.
Police say that on May 11, 26-year-old Erin Gerhard was riding a skateboard when he was hit by a vehicle and thrown into the left lane. There, a second vehicle struck him. Both vehicles left.
Based on forensic evidence, witness statements and help from the public, police say they identified Young as the driver of one of the vehicles and secured an arrest warrant.
Troopers are still seeking information on a light-colored truck that may have been involved in the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call 985-893-6250.
