Governor addresses soldiers deploying to Afghanistan
ZACHARY - Family members and dignitaries gathered in Zachary to see off members of the Louisiana Army National Guard this morning.
About 100 members of the 926th Mobilization Augmentation Company unit are deploying for a year to Afghanistan. While there they'll be conducting route-clearance operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Governor Bobby Jindal was scheduled to address the soldiers at a deployment ceremony in Zachary. Afterwards the troops will travel to For McCoy, Wis. for a month of mobilization training before deploying overseas.
The Baker-based 926th previously deployed in 2002 to Afghanistan as a construction unit.
