Area sheriff warns about scam in the mail
CONVENT- Deputies in St. James Parish issued a warning Monday about a scam that is circulating the parish.
"Scam letters titled 'Citi Financial' are being circulated," deputies posted on Facebook. They said the literature appears to suggested someone is a promotion lucky winner and a fraudulent $2,837 check is enclosed.
"Do not negotiate this," the post warned. "You'll be liable for the sum of the fraudulent check."
If you receive the mailer, report it to authorities.
