APSO: Unrestrained teens thrown from wreck
BELLE ROSE - Three teen girls thrown from the vehicle they were in after a wreck Thursday night weren't wearing their seat belts, according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies said 18-year-old Alaina Landry, 17-year-old Brandy Landry, and 18-year-old Katie Metzler were seriously injured after the wreck on LA 70 in Assumption Parish.
Investigators said the girls were headed west on LA 70 when they passed another vehicle in a curved no-passing zone. Deputies said their car went off the side of the road, spun as it hit a ditch and overturned. All three girls were thrown from the vehicle as it flipped, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators said speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, and alcohol use is unknown. Deputies said they were also still trying to determine which teen was driving the vehicle.
