APSO: Two arrested in vehicle theft, burglaries
DONALDSONVILLE - Sheriff's deputies arrested two people after investigators said they stole a vehicle from an Ascension Parish church parking lot, then abandoned it.
Chief Deputy Tony Bacala with the parish sheriff's office said investigators in St. James Parish arrested Erick Byington, 32, and Ashley Nicole Lee, 23, both of Texas, after they found the pair with stolen items from the vehicle.
Bacala said on April 25 a vehicle was reported stolen from the Ascension Catholic Church parking lot in Donaldsonville. Several agencies were notified of the theft, and St. James Parish Sheriff's deputies later found the stolen vehicle in a parking lot near Highway 70.
About the same time, St. James deputies were notified of another attempted vehicle theft in Lutcher. They responded to the report and stopped a car with Byington and Lee in it, and said they found several missing items taken from the original stolen vehicle as well as six other vehicles at the church.
Deputies booked the pair into St. James Parish Jail on charges of vehicle theft and six counts of simple burglary of a vehicle.
