APSO Sheriff: Body of missing Belle Rose woman found
BELLE ROSE - Authorities say they've found the body of an elderly woman who they believe was abducted from her home in Assumption Parish.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack of Assumption Parish said they found the body of Anna Mae Hidalgo, 84, during an aerial search near her home in Belle Rose.
Hidalgo was reported missing Sunday afternoon. The sheriff said they "definitely" suspected foul play in her disappearance, after finding evidence of an abduction in Hidalgo's home.
Deputies from Assumption and Ascension parishes had been searching an area near Hidalgo's home where her vehicle was found abandoned. State Police joined the search today with helicopters, and spotted the body in a bayou around noon.
News 2's Rachel Frost will have an update on search efforts tonight in News 2 at 5.
Anyone with information about Hidalgo's disappearance should call the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office at (985) 369-7281.
