APSO: Man arrested for having sex with 13-year-old runaway
GONZALES - Ascension Parish authorities arrested a Baton Rouge man after they said he had sex with a 13-year-old girl who ran away from her home in Gonzales.
Major Kevin Hanna with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested Michael Long, 40, of Baton Rouge on Thursday, the same day they received the report of the girl's disappearance.
Hanna said family members of the girl told deputies she had left in a truck with an man later identified as Long. Investigators found out the girl had been communicating with Long for some time through text messages and an "adults only" dating websites, where she claimed she was an adult.
That afternoon, Hanna said the girl called a family member while investigators were on their way to Long's home, and agreed to be picked up. She was taken to the sheriff's office, and confirmed she'd run away with Long. Deputies then went to Long's home and took him into custody, and Hanna said he confessed to them he'd had consensual sex with the girl.
Long is in Ascension Parish jail, charged with second degree kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He could also face charges in East Baton Rouge Parish. Hanna said Long also has a criminal history consisting of domestic abuse battery, 2nd degree battery, assault and resisting arrest.
The 13-year-old is in the St. James Youth Detention Center on a juvenile status offense of being ungovernable. Her fate will be determined pending a hearing in juvenile court.
