PIERRE PART - Sheriff's deputies arrested a man in Assumption Parish and said he was caught with several bags of crystal meth.

Sheriff Mike Waguespack said narcotics agents arrested Tommy Donati, II of Berwick this past Friday in suspicion of possessing meth with the intent to distribute it, and resisting an officer.

Waguespack said a narcotics agent received a tip Donati was bringing a large amount of crystal meth to sell in the Belle River area. Deputies stopped the pickup he was driving at the Belle River Car Wash, and said when they approached him he began swearing at the deputies, and shortly after took off on foot.

Deputies caught Donati after a short chase, and said when they patted him down they found a black bag with six grams of crystal meth inside. They said Donati admitted he brought the meth to Belle River to sell to a friend.

Deputies booked Donati into the parish jail. A bond had not been set as of Monday morning.
