APSO awards new academic scholarship
GONZALES - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that they have selected two recipients for a new academic scholarship.
Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley established the scholarship fund in honor Dawn Shivers, a retired employee of APSO who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer.
Victoria Arnold of St. Amant High School received $1,500. Darnesha Collier of East Ascension High School received $500.
Arnold and Collier were the first students to receive APSO's Dawn Shivers Memorial Scholarship Program intended to honor the department's finest.
APSO said they selected high school seniors from the parish to receive the awards based on qualities of academic achievement, leadership and character.
Note: The sheriff's office said a photo of Victoria Arnold was not available.
