Bossier City officials are appealing the reinstatement of a fired police officer.

Officer Phillip Vernon had been fired after the arrest of attorney Sherb Sentell at a Bossier casino last fall, following an alleged domestic dispute.

At the time, Sentell was an assistant district attorney in Webster Parish.

The state attorney general's office decided not to prosecute Sentell after reviewing the case.

Vernon, who alleged that Sentell had threatened his job, was fired.

The Bossier Civil Service Board said Vernon's punishment was too harsh.
