Apartment developments popping up in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - Developers are hoping new housing units will fill up as fast as they're being built in Baton Rouge.
Students say it's a good idea to get a head start on finding new digs.
"We started pretty early but I know it gets more difficult the longer you wait places start filling up so the selection becomes less and less," says LSU student Emily Lassus.
She says she had to sign her lease months ahead of time to avoid the rush. Realtors say due to a high demand for rental units, there's a market for new apartment developments. Students agree.
"LSU has a big population there's a lot of college students around here and there's more and more moving out of their house," says LSU student Lena Nguyen.
University Edge, located on W. McKinley St., is set to open this fall. The Elysian on Spanish Town Road is under construction as well. The Fairfield at Burbank, located on Burbank and Ben Hurr, is still in the planning stages but land has been cleared at the construction site.
These three developments will add more than 500 rental units to Baton Rouge, and having more options is always a good thing in the eyes of students looking for somewhere to call home.
"It gives it more opportunities for students to have more options of living arrangements, you know, they don't have to be in a certain area, they can venture off to really where they want to be," says Lassus.
