AP Source: Miami asks NCAA to end investigation
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that Miami filed a motion with the NCAA on Friday to have the case against its athletic department thrown out altogether, citing massive improprieties with how the investigation was conducted.
Also, three former Miami assistants filed a similar motion, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because neither filing was released publicly.
A maneuver like the one the Hurricanes are now trying isn't how these major-infractions cases typically proceed. However, it essentially is a continuation of what Miami President Donna Shalala demanded in mid-February, that the long saga finally have some closure.
