Anti-cop note left before deadly shooting spree
PHILADELPHIA -Philadelphia police have identified a suspect shot and killed after officials said he ambushed one officer and injured another before killing a woman and wounding three other people during an overnight shooting spree.
Commissioner Richard Ross said 25-year-old Nicholas Glenn "was hell-bent on hurting a lot of people." He said Glenn was well-known to the police department.
Officials said Glenn walked up to Sgt. Sylvia Young as she sat in her patrol car and fired 18 times, striking her vest, her arm and disabling her service weapon. He then fired into a bar, injuring a security guard, wounded a woman, and fired into a car, hitting a man and woman. That woman died just before 2 a.m. Saturday. The suspect also wounded a University of Pennsylvania police officer before he was shot in an alley by other officers.
Police found a "rambling" letter that expressed anger at both police and his probation officer. Ross said the envelope was titled "Doomed."
