Another La. lawmaker switches parties
BATON ROUGE - Another Louisiana lawmaker has switched to the Republican party.
The state Republican Delegation announced Sen. Jody Amedee of Gonzales switched parties today.
"Jody is the third Democrat to switch parties in the last five months in the State Senate. We do not believe he will be the last," said Senator Danny Martiny, Senate chair of the Delegation.
Senator Amedee was first elected to the Senate in 2003 and was unopposed in 2007. His district includes a large part of Ascension Parish as well as parts of Livingston, St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes. The 2010 census showed Ascension and Livingston were the two fastest-growing parishes in the state.
Amedee is chairman of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources, and also serves on the Committees on Environmental Quality, Senate and Governmental Affairs, and the Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay as well as the Senate Select Committees on Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs.
