PORT ALLEN - Election officials said they'll have an announcement Monday afternoon about the recently-submitted petition to recall Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter.
Organizers of the petition turned in their collected signatures last week to the Registrar of Voters in West Baton Rouge Parish. It was the first time in parish history a completed recall petition had been submitted.
The registar's office must certify at least 1,273 of the signatures are valid for the recall to proceed.
Slaughter has been the subject of numerous News 2 investigations into possible wrongdoing during her time in office. She claimed the recall effort is targeting her because she's black.
The announcement is planned for 1:30 p.m. News 2 Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto will have more on the announcement this afternoon.
