Announcement today on breakaway school district
BATON ROUGE - The lawmaker leading the charge for a breakaway school district in southeast Baton Rouge scheduled an announcement today regarding the troubled legislation.
Senator Bodi White, R-Baton Rouge, scheduled the press conference for noon today, the day before the regular legislative session is scheduled to end.
The measure was shelved Monday in the House and now requires a two-thirds vote of both chambers to pass to the governor's desk.
Supporters of the breakaway district say it'll improve education for people living in the area similar to the way community school districts for Zachary and Baker have. Critics say it will drain quality students and funding from the larger East Baton Rouge School System.
News 2 will have more on the announcement later at WBRZ.com and at noon.
