SORRENTO - A local shelter is taking in more than 30 animals after some neighbors were concerned about large huskies roaming around an Ascension Parish neighborhood.

The breeder’s family member contacted Cara’s House Animal Shelter in Ascension Parish after neighbors called animal control.  The situation was previously the focus of a 2 On Your Side report.  Read the original report HERE.

“The huskies were difficult to catch once we learned they were wolf hybrid...we are not setup to do that and neither is our animal control. So, we call in Villalobos, and Tia Torres came in and they could catch them and properly secure them taking them back to their location," Ragan Daniels with the shelter said.

According to the animal shelter, not only where huskies discovered on the property, but there were 19 Pomeranians, as well. Most of the dogs tested positive for heartworm disease and are being medically cared for before they can be adopted.

“The dogs are flee infested, they are not very social. They are all scared when you go to touch them they either flinch or will turn and snap--just out of fear. They're not mean, their just terrified," Daniels said, adding the dogs were full of mud, feces and urine.

The animal shelter isn’t used to the large number of animals at one time so they need donations, such as dog and cat food, kitty litter and puppy pads.

“An unfortunate situation for them to end up being in shelter they want a home they want a forever commitment and we strongly encourage people to adopt and not shop,” Daniels said.

Three Himalayan cats are ready for adoption at Cara’s House. The Pomeranians will be ready for adoption in a week.
