ANGOLA – A second person has now been charged in connection with a drug investigation the WBRZ Investigative Unit first reported in early-December.

WBRZ was first to report Keisarah McGee was charged with malfeasance in office and possession with intent to distribute meth. McGee was a corrections officer at the state penitentiary in Angola.

Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto reported then, there was a federal investigation into drugs at the prison. Sources warned additional arrests were imminent, but as has been the case, local jail authorities and higher-level state prison publicists refused to elaborate and tried to divert reports.

Thursday, The Advocate reported of yet another charge in the case.

Kevin Latroy Benjamin, 45, was charged with malfeasance in office.

Benjamin was heard in a recorded conversation discussing information that would make smuggling drugs into the prison easy, area District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla told the newspaper.

When reached for comment – and confirmation - D’Aquilla told WBRZ he “does not talk to TMZ” - a reference to his frustration over WBRZ reports about complaints and lawsuits in West Feliciana or at Angola.

Benjamin retired from the state prisons department the same day McGee was arrested. WBRZ previously reported a high-ranking official retired at the time of the arrest.

Records obtained by the WBRZ Investigative Unit show the corrections officer, McGee, was booked into jail on malfeasance in office and possession with intent to distribute meth. Investigators found 6.11 ounces of crystal meth inside her vehicle during a shakedown.

Multiple agencies are involved in the investigation, including the FBI.

Sources told WBRZ the two arrests may not be the only ones.

"It may be the tip of the iceberg," the source told WBRZ.
