Update: At a press conference announcing the capture of convicted murderer Henry Smith, Corrections Secretary James LeBlanc said the state may purchase ankle bracelets for trustees.
LeBlanc said, "That's still in it's early stages but again a use of technology we need and will look at."
Authorities said Smith was captured in a creek bed north of Highway 66, nearly four miles from the prison.
Smith walked away from a road clean up crew last Thursday. 25 different agencies, along with the U.S. Marshal's office, were involved in the search.
Smith had been serving a life sentence for a 1981 murder in Jefferson Parish.
