BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Black Alliance for Educational Options has asked the Zachary Community School system to reinstate its commitment to the Student Scholarships for Educational Excellence (SSEE) program.
The program provides opportunities for low-income children who attend low-performing schools to transfer to private schools or higher-performing public schools.
The Zachary Community School system recently reversed its decision to participate in the SSEE program.
The state of Louisiana reportedly would award Zachary approximately $4,000 per child accepted through the SSEE program.
Zachary reportedly spends more than twice that amount per student with the district projected to receive $8,843 per student for children zoned for Zachary schools.
