Amite River, Diversion Canal reopened to recreational boat traffic
GONZALES - The Amite River and Diversion Canal reopened Friday morning to recreational boat traffic in Ascension Parish.
Livingston Parish says their waterways will stay closed through at least Saturday night because water is still left in low-lying areas.
Both parishes closed the waterways because of Tropical Storm Lee, and left them closed after the storm passed because the water levels in Livingston were still too high.
Ascension Parish did not suffer the same amount of flooding as Livingston, where some areas remain partially underwater.
