Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested an Amite police officer on a charge of second-degree battery.

Deputies say Joseph Phillips was involved in a fight Saturday night, while Phillips was not on duty.

Amite police say the victim was female and her injuries were not serious, and no weapon was involved.

Phillips has worked for the department for about five years.

Phillips has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case.
