Update: All lanes are open on Interstate 10 East at the Interstate 10/Interstate 12 split.
Traffic had been bumper-to-bumper since early this morning when a tractor trailer belonging to R&L Carriers overturned in the eastbound lane of I-10 at the split with I-12. The truck, which was headed to New Orleans from Lafayette, was carrying hazardous chemicals that had to be transferred to another truck by hand. According to the Department of Environmental Quality, the only thing that had spilled from the wreck was a container of paint.
The cleanup pushed traffic back onto side streets and delayed drivers for hours. Those delays were increased by secondary accidents involving vehicles on or near the I-10/I-12 split, but no major injuries have been reported from those accidents.
Tune into News 2 tonight at 10 for the latest on the cleanup.
