An Alexandria man has been arrested in the death of his roommate.

Marvin Leon Butler was booked this week with second-degree murder in the death of 48-year-old Richard Staten.

Police say Butler allegedly struck Staten across the head with a clothes hanger and cut him on the hand with a machete.

Authorities say Butler allegedly did these two things because he was angry that Staten had given a clothes hanger to his girlfriend.

Staten was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

He was released from the hospital and was found dead in his home in the bathroom Oct. 1.
