Alexandria considers changes in trash pickup
Alexandria officials are considering changes in trash pickup schedules as they search for ways to make pickup more efficient.
Mayor Jacques Roy says sanitation department workers are currently "triaging" the trash pickup because of having fewer employees.
Several city councilmen are voicing their concerns about trash sitting for weeks at a time while waiting for city workers to pick it up.
City workers are picking up more trash at this time this year than they did last year, averaging 1,347 tons per month from May to July compared to 1,334 tons over that same period last year.
City officials are considering placing a debris truck in each district to run every day in hopes that will speed up the process.
