ST. AMANT - Investigators in Ascension Parish arrested three people in connection with an underage drinking party this past weekend at a parish facility.

Deputies charged Donna Boeta, 42, of St. Amant with contributing to the delinquency of the juvenile. They also arrested a 16-year-old who admitted to drinking at the party for consumption of alcohol by someone under 21, and 19-year-old Desmond Price in suspicion of possession of alcohol by someone under 21.

According to the sheriff's office, Boeta rented the St. Amant Recreation Center on Stringer Bridge Road for an event Saturday night. They said she told parish officials there would be alcohol at the event, and was informed she would have to have security present at the party and purchase a $1 million insurance policy, which she agreed to.

On Saturday night deputies were called to the facility after reports of a large fight. They said they found alcohol left behind at the facility, and were told a gun may have been brandished during the fight and someone had been stabbed.

Investigators said they learned Boeta rented the facility for a 17-year-old family friend, who sold bracelets for the party at school. They also said there was no security for the event, the 17-year-old's parents did not attend, and there was no constant parental supervision. Boeta herself left the party due to an illness in the family, according to detectives.

Deputies said Price told them he'd been "jumped" by someone, but didn't know anyone involved in the fight. They said the 16-year-old told them he'd been "sucker punched," but didn't know who did it and otherwise hadn't been involved in the fight.

After the fight broke out, detectives said an adult at the party announced it was over, and people left before sheriff's deputies arrived. Boeta also arrived back at the facility after deputies had begun their investigation.

Detectives said they weren't able to confirm if a gun or knife had been used in the fight, and had difficulty identifying the people involved because of a lack of cooperation by adults and minors interviewed as part of the investigation.

"We will not tolerate adults promoting and hosting parties where underage drinking will take place," said Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley.

The three people arrested were given misdemeanor summons and released.
