BATON ROUGE - The Baton Rouge area Alcohol and Drug Center is expanding.
The facility has been at its current location for 40 years and is quickly outgrowing its space. With a waiting list which runs 600 people deep, many who need help are turned away.
To accommodate more people, organization leaders purchased a building at 216 S. Foster. Executive Director Lisa Bailey says the new facility will provide a cleaner, educational environment for those seeking treatment.
"It needs to be renovated to be able to offer the clients overnight stay," said Bailey.
BRAADC recently took out a loan to help cover the cost of renovations, but they need to raise an additional $600,000 to complete the project. The new facility will also be home to a 24-hour sobering unit, available for use by law enforcement, hospitals and the public.
