Airport expansion plans progressing
KENNER - Details on the planned expansion of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport have been unveiled.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu, New Orleans Aviation Board members and other public officials were on hand for Thursday's release of artist renderings for the $826 million airport overhaul, which includes a new north terminal for the airport.
The 650,000-square-foot terminal complex features sweeping curved glass walls. It will include two concourses with 30 gates, a $17 million on-site hotel and a parking garage with 2,000 spaces. The plan also calls for a new $87 million ramp from Interstate 10 to improve traffic flow.
The city says all funding for the expansion is from federal and state sources, along with airport revenue bonds and aviation board capital funds. The project is expected to bring 13,000 construction jobs.
